New Church - Central themes

Risen Christ carving
The central mystery of the Christian Faith, the Resurrection, is depicted in the Risen Christ woodcarving in the Sanctuary. On either side of the Sanctuary the focus is on the two central Sacraments of the Church, namely, Baptism and the Eucharist.

Carving depicting baptism of Christ
On the left is the scene of Christ's Baptism in the river Jordan by his cousin, John the Baptist - Matthew 3 : 13-17. On the right is the Tabernacle in which the Blessed Sacrament is reserved. The light beside it becomes a kind of eternal flame.
The door of the Tabernacle shows Christ breaking bread with two of his disciples near Emmaus on the first Easter Sunday evening - Luke 24: 13-35. The artist, Stephen Foster, has placed a replica of St. Anthony's Church in Henham (erected in 1933) on the left of the Tabernacle door. And on the right a replica of the House-Church at Millside, Stansted, used from 1958 to 2001, with the windmill in the background.

Detail of Tabernacle carving
The Stations of the Cross are along the rear wall of the Church. Near the Sacristy door is the new statue of St. Anthony, and the new organ. On the opposite side of the Church is St. Therese's Room. It contains photographs of her, her parents and others. Off the room is the Parish Office. A new statue of Mary, Christ's mother, is placed in the corner opposite St Anthony.
